When the story of this class is written, it opens with Blake Watson at Round 7, Pick 24, a reach of 41 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is McGlothern.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They jumped the gun on Jonathon Brooks, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the 56th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Zach Frazier in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Ja'Lynn Polk went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Cedric Gray in Round 3, Pick 24, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Dwight McGlothern was the payoff at No. 174. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylan Ford in the Round 6 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Solomon Byrd at Round 7, Pick 13, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor itch, scratched.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Blake Watson. It fills a real need, too.
