The Cowboys bet big and early on Barryn Sorrell, 142 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
The Hancock value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, with Emeka Egbuka leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Kaleb Johnson went about where he belonged in the 44th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zy Alexander in the 76th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Barrett Carter at par in No. 80, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Hollin Pierce at Round 4, Pick 27. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Lathan Ransom in pick 150 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Cody Simon all the way to Round 5, Pick 13, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a quarterback like Tyler Shough reach No. 170 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barryn Sorrell this early at the Round 5 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Pat Bryant at the 174th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Connor Colby in pick No. 190 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Corey Kiner in the 211th overall pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Hancock at pick 249 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
