You build a draft on nights like this. M.J. Devonshire had no business being available in pick 233, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Wallace pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kris Jenkins in the 56th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Steal is underselling it; Christian Haynes at No. 87 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at the Round 5 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Trevin Wallace at the 216th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
M.J. Devonshire in pick 233 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
