New England Patriots

The Patriots left with their quarterback, and a B- to match.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Paul pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In pick No. 3 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 47
They liked Patrick Paul enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 34. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 76
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Corley a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 117
They went early on Mohamed Kamara in Round 4, Pick 4, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 140
No drama and no debate, Kamal Hadden went about where he belonged in slot 136. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 188
They paid sticker price for Trey Knox in pick 182, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Ryan Watts · CB · rank 222
Fair-plus on Ryan Watts, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
