For all the boxes ticked, the Packers skipped the loudest one: quarterback is exactly as bare as it was. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Troy Fautanu at Round 1, Pick 25 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Adisa Isaac in slot 58, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 88th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Trey Benson in pick No. 91 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at the 126th pick, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tykee Smith in pick 169. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cornelius Johnson is a better player than pick No. 202 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Drake Nugent was the payoff at the 219th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They did well to land Donovan Jennings in slot 245, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Owens at the 255th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
