You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Dolphins did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Harvey pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Reaching for Tuimoloau left real value on the table behind him. The Taliese Fuaga pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
In pick No. 26 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a bendy edge with upside, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in slot 48, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at No. 98 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tate Ratledge reach the 114th pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Malachi Moore at pick 133 is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They will replay Jake Majors at the 149th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pat Bryant in No. 154 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
RJ Harvey in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
