Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Xavier Legette, the No. 35 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 125th pick.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. On the needs board they went 1 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Circle this one: Malik Nabers at slot 24 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Rome Odunze in pick No. 56 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Adonai Mitchell in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Xavier Legette at pick 125 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
