You could see the war room lean forward. Eli Stowers at Round 3, Pick 31 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Steal is underselling it; Caleb Banks at No. 63 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Eli Stowers in Round 3, Pick 31 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ja'Kobi Lane in slot 125 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Jack Endries higher than the 131st overall pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Reggie Virgil at pick No. 171. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zane Durant slipping to pick 191 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Jeff Caldwell in the 198th pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Jalen Stroman, who had no business lasting to pick No. 202. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jadon Canady at No. 212 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay TJ Hall at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
