Green Bay Packers

The Packers cashed the board's mistake on McGlothern: B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Dwight McGlothern slide 41 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The Gargiulo reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 17
In slot 25 they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 18
They barely believed it either: Terrion Arnold still on the board at pick 41. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at the 58th pick, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 70
They robbed the room for Devontez Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 129
They liked Isaac Guerendo enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 120. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 119
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 131
Steal is underselling it; Jamari Thrash at the 161st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 33: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
They let Walter Rouse come to them and pounced at pick 172. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
Dwight McGlothern in No. 202 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.43 · Pick 218 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 206
Nice patience on Jared Wiley, who had no business lasting to pick No. 218. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 216
Garret Greenfield at the 219th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 235
Michael Barrett slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 25 is lovely value for the linebacker. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Nick Gargiulo · C · rank 281
A real head-scratcher, Nick Gargiulo in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
