The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Dwight McGlothern slide 41 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Gargiulo reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They barely believed it either: Terrion Arnold still on the board at pick 41. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at the 58th pick, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Devontez Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They liked Isaac Guerendo enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 120. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Jamari Thrash at the 161st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 33: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They let Walter Rouse come to them and pounced at pick 172. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Dwight McGlothern in No. 202 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Jared Wiley, who had no business lasting to pick No. 218. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Garret Greenfield at the 219th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Michael Barrett slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 25 is lovely value for the linebacker. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A real head-scratcher, Nick Gargiulo in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
