You could see the war room lean forward. Devin Neal at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If Phillips pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In the end it comes back to TreVeyon Henderson, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

TreVeyon Henderson in pick 57 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Elic Ayomanor higher than slot 74, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jordan Phillips at the 91st overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Charles Grant at Round 4, Pick 9 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a safety like Andrew Mukuba reach No. 113 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tez Johnson in pick No. 128 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

A straight-up fair deal on Jack Nelson at pick 172, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quincy Riley at pick No. 174 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Ty Robinson in No. 190, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Oronde Gadsden II still on the board at the 211th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cam Horsley slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on Cody Lindenberg in the 230th overall pick; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Clay Webb in Round 7, Pick 28, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Jabbar Muhammad all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
