After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
That Sainristil pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every board in the league had Robinson lower, and that gap is the story. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in slot 36. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 40 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brenden Rice in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Darius Robinson at pick No. 101, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zak Zinter is a better player than Round 4, Pick 3 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mike Sainristil in the 138th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaylan Ford at No. 181 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board fumbled De'Corian Clark all the way to Round 6, Pick 45, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
