There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cowboys started one anyway for Jaden Shirden, 50 picks ahead of schedule.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Bo Nix gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Oladapo at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 26 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at the 56th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Christian Haynes at the 57th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cooper Beebe in Round 3, Pick 7 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 75 with a little surplus value in Payton Wilson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Davis at pick No. 87 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylen Wright. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Beaux Limmer in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in Round 5, Pick 10 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kitan Oladapo slipping to the 174th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Proctor at slot 194. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Good price on Jase McClellan in No. 212, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on Marcus Harris at the 219th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nathaniel Watson at the 225th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Jaden Shirden in pick 245 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They talked themselves into Mason Fairchild at No. 246, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
