The Patriots looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jawhar Jordan at the Round 6 slot regardless, 81 picks early. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Coleman. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board.
Hit on Amarius Mims and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 2 with a little surplus value in Bo Nix. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Adonai Mitchell at pick 37 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Keon Coleman all the way to the 68th pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A want over a need in pick No. 88: Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Jawhar Jordan at the 182nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Dylan McMahon at Round 7, Pick 9, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
