The board owed the Bears one, and it paid up: Akheem Mesidor, the No. 37 name on the board, sitting there at the 239th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They will replay David Bailey at pick No. 57 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dillon Thieneman in No. 60 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Mansoor Delane at the 94th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Spencer Fano at the 129th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Kayden McDonald still on the board at pick 130. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Akheem Mesidor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Logan Jones at Round 7, Pick 25 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
