Denver Broncos

The Broncos jumped the board for Klein and paid for it: F.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Broncos would have aced it. Marlin Klein at the 111th overall pick is 61 spots clear of where he belonged. A F, plain and simple.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers. On value alone, Styles makes the weekend a net positive.

In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.1 · Pick 33 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Sonny Styles at slot 33. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 42
They paid sticker price for Caleb Banks in No. 35, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Malachi Fields · WR · rank 72
A conviction pick on Malachi Fields at Round 2, Pick 30 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 131
A real head-scratcher, DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 108 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Marlin Klein · TE · rank 172
Value said wait; Marlin Klein in the 111th overall pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.20 · Pick 160 · Le'Veon Moss · RB · rank 200
Le'Veon Moss at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
R5.30 · Pick 170 · VJ Payne · S · rank 190
VJ Payne in pick No. 170 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.6 · Pick 187 · Chase Roberts · WR · rank 205
Chase Roberts at pick 187 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Nolan Rucci · OT · rank 250
Nolan Rucci at No. 246 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · Logan Taylor · OG · rank 258
No edge and no loss on Logan Taylor in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Dijon Johnson · CB · rank 284
They reached a country mile for Dijon Johnson at the 257th pick, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
