Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Vernon Broughton at the 78th overall pick is 79 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
The Fitzgerald pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jihaad Campbell in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Vernon Broughton in pick No. 78 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylin Noel is a better player than the 114th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ryan Fitzgerald at No. 153 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
