You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Slaughter had no business being available in Round 4, Pick 25, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The Taylor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a rangy last line of defense, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kenyon Sadiq in slot 63 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Kaleb Proctor at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at No. 125. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Max Llewellyn in Round 4, Pick 31, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ephesians Prysock. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Nate Boerkircher here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Aaron Graves in the 198th overall pick, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Demond Claiborne at pick No. 202 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; Logan Taylor in the 212th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Thaddeus Dixon all the way to No. 247, and they scooped it up. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
