You could see the war room lean forward. Jake Slaughter at No. 91 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Browns clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Jermod McCoy in slot 24 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Sonny Styles in Round 1, Pick 26, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren still on the board at the 70th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jake Slaughter at the 91st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in No. 126, with Michael Trigg worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land CJ Daniels in pick No. 146, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kaytron Allen in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Josh Cameron was still sitting there in pick 206, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Keyshaun Elliott at Round 7, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Thaddeus Dixon in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kaden Wetjen in the 248th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
