The Browns did not so much draft Wesley Williams as overpay for him, 64 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. On value alone, Hunter makes the weekend a net positive.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Carnell Tate and all.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Carnell Tate in the 12th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
In the 24th pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Emmanuel Pregnon at par in No. 39, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Lee Hunter at pick No. 70 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Davison Igbinosun in Round 4, Pick 7 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ja'Kobi Lane slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Demond Claiborne in slot 146; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Taylen Green at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Jimmy Rolder at No. 206, and it noticed. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Wesley Williams at the 248th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
