The Cowboys torched the value chart for Rylie Mills, taking him 57 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The James steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Tyleik Williams went about where he belonged in No. 44. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Rylie Mills at pick No. 76 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Karene Reid at pick 150, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Jordan James at slot 170 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in the 172nd overall pick: Ben Sauls for less than the market said. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
No edge and no loss on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick No. 174; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Alex Mastromanno this early at pick 190. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
