You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with O'Donnell Fortune in pick No. 77. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Warren at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, O'Donnell Fortune well ahead of where he belonged. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in pick 105 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Tyler Cooper in Round 5, Pick 6 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
