Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent pick 236 on Roman Hemby, a name most had 118 spots down the list.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Lee Hunter in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Taurean York at pick No. 90, and the board did not agree. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A tidy bit of business in No. 120, where Brian Parker II graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Eli Raridon at pick 130 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Keagen Trost, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ephesians Prysock in Round 6, Pick 20 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Andre Fuller at pick 227 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Roman Hemby in the 236th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jack Pyburn at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eli Heidenreich in slot 255. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
