The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Cam Skattebo slide 82 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Fleming has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Grey Zabel at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Andrew Mukuba here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Barrett Carter in pick 122 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach for Joshua Farmer in slot 158; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Cam Skattebo at Round 6, Pick 21 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Julian Fleming at the 237th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyler Cooper in the 250th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
