They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Hartman value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Jordan Morgan in slot 36 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Adonai Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 8, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 67 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 100 with a little surplus value in Zak Zinter. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Max Melton at the 119th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy little value on Ainias Smith in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaheim Bell at the 141st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nathan Thomas slipping to No. 181 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Sam Hartman in slot 223, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
