Boards are made to be trusted, and the 49ers shredded theirs for Jalen Farmer. He came off 48 spots early, and the room will hear about it. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Kilgore pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jalen Farmer in slot 58 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a cornerback like Jalon Kilgore reach pick No. 127 and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Fair-plus on Joe Royer, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Harold Perkins Jr. in No. 138, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DeMonte Capehart. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
