Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jason Henderson at the 251st overall pick is 132 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
It is not that Kamara is a bad player; it is that the Jaguars had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in pick No. 64: Jacob Rodriguez for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Jake Golday in the 81st pick, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
They took Ted Hurst at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Billy Schrauth in Round 3, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They jumped the gun on Brian Parker II, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Joly at pick 124, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Kaytron Allen in No. 127 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 129th pick on Mikail Kamara with safety unsolved.
Zxavian Harris at pick No. 166 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Eric McAlister at slot 230 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Eli Heidenreich at Round 7, Pick 15, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nolan Rucci in the 232nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Logan Taylor at pick 233, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Diego Pavia in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Kalil Alexander, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jack Pyburn at slot 246 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Aidan Hubbard in Round 7, Pick 31, miles early. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Jason Henderson at pick 251 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had cheaper options than Josh Moten at No. 257, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
