Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Jaguars spent the 240th overall pick on Jason Henderson, a name most had 140 spots down the list. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Jaguars paired the rookies with proven help, Ernest Jones leading the way.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 2 slot is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Elijah Sarratt at pick 81 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ted Hurst. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Billy Schrauth in pick No. 93, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A slide stopped in slot 100, with Sam Hecht worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Jack Endries in No. 124; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Mikail Kamara in Round 4, Pick 27 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They talked themselves into Kaytron Allen at slot 129, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Red Murdock went about where he belonged in pick No. 191. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Eric McAlister at the 198th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nolan Rucci in the Round 7 slot, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Logan Taylor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Lander Barton at No. 232, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Aiden Fisher at pick 233 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Eli Heidenreich in Round 7, Pick 21, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Fagnano well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kalil Alexander this early at the 239th overall pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A real head-scratcher, Jason Henderson in pick No. 240 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Deven Eastern at No. 245 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Aidan Hubbard at slot 246 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Josh Moten at the 247th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Jack Kelly at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
