There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Jaguars started one anyway for Jason Henderson, 124 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Hurst steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Jaguars clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
On the needs board they went 9 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid up for Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Jake Golday all the way to Round 3, Pick 20, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Michael Taaffe at pick 88 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Brian Parker II at the 89th overall pick, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They liked Markel Bell enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 100. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 124 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Jack Endries went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Emmett Johnson in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Patrick Payton in No. 164 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Eric McAlister in the 203rd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Diego Pavia at Round 6, Pick 31, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Eli Heidenreich at slot 238 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joe Fagnano in the 239th pick, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They went early on Nolan Rucci in pick No. 245, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Logan Taylor at Round 7, Pick 30 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kalil Alexander at slot 247 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A wild overpay on Aidan Hubbard in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Deven Eastern at the 252nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A conviction pick on Josh Moten at No. 255 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Jack Kelly in the 256th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jason Henderson this early at pick No. 257. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
