There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Jaguars started one anyway for Jason Henderson, 144 picks ahead of schedule. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The Golday pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety and tight end still on the board. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Gabe Jacas in the Round 2 slot, miles early. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid up for Elijah Sarratt at the 66th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Keionte Scott in the 67th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Jake Slaughter was still sitting there in pick No. 81, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Jake Golday in Round 3, Pick 24 leaves safety and tight end for later.
A real head-scratcher, Brian Parker II in pick 89 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ted Hurst in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Billy Schrauth at slot 103 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Zane Durant in No. 191, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eric McAlister. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nolan Rucci. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Kaelon Black went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Noah Whittington at the 231st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Logan Taylor at the 232nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Brandon Cleveland in No. 233, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Deven Eastern at slot 237 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Joe Fagnano, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jason Henderson in pick 240 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Eli Heidenreich at Round 7, Pick 25 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Josh Moten in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
