Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Jaguars spent the 232nd pick on Jason Henderson, a name the board had a full 149 spots lower.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Rivers at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Kamara pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety and running back still on the board.
The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They jumped the gun on Jacob Rodriguez, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Jake Golday at the 81st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Ted Hurst went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Billy Schrauth in pick 89, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Keylan Rutledge at pick No. 100 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 24 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Mikail Kamara in Round 4, Pick 27 leaves safety and running back for later.
Jack Endries is a better player than slot 129 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Eric McAlister slid further than he should have, and pick 212 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Chase Roberts in the 217th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Eli Heidenreich at No. 224, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Aiden Fisher in pick No. 227 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Joe Fagnano in the 231st overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jason Henderson at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Josh Moten at pick No. 233 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Onyedim in the 238th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Deven Eastern at No. 239 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Aidan Hubbard this early at Round 7, Pick 24. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Logan Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nolan Rucci at slot 243 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Lake McRee in pick 245, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
