The war room fell hard for Jason Henderson, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 23: 142 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Landing Thomas that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.32 · Pick 64 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 72
Jacob Rodriguez in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 59
Steal is underselling it; Jake Golday at pick No. 81 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Billy Schrauth · OG · rank 119
A big swing on Billy Schrauth at Round 3, Pick 25, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.32 · Pick 96 · Sam Hecht · C · rank 87
Sam Hecht is a better player than No. 96 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.36 · Pick 100 · Skyler Bell · WR · rank 88
A slide stopped in the 100th overall pick, with Skyler Bell worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Ja'Kobi Lane · WR · rank 98
Ja'Kobi Lane at slot 124 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Jack Endries · TE · rank 121
Nothing to complain about; Jack Endries went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Hezekiah Masses · CB · rank 137
Hezekiah Masses in No. 133 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.24 · Pick 164 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 157
Drew Allar at pick No. 164 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.26 · Pick 166 · Kage Casey · OT · rank 160
A tidy little value on Kage Casey in Round 5, Pick 26, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 242
The board had cheaper options than Eli Heidenreich at the 227th overall pick, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.14 · Pick 230 · Keyshaun Elliott · LB · rank 219
Nice patience on Keyshaun Elliott, who had no business lasting to the 230th pick. The roster fit checks out.
R7.15 · Pick 231 · Lander Barton · LB · rank 232
They paid sticker price for Lander Barton in slot 231, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
R7.16 · Pick 232 · Joe Fagnano · QB · rank 304
Joe Fagnano at pick 232 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.17 · Pick 233 · Jack Pyburn · LB-EDGE · rank 283
Value said wait; Jack Pyburn in slot 233 says they were not listening. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.21 · Pick 237 · Deven Eastern · DL · rank 279
They left a pile of value on the table to take Deven Eastern this early at pick 237. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Jason Henderson · LB · rank 381
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jason Henderson well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.29 · Pick 245 · Logan Taylor · OG · rank 260
A reach on Logan Taylor in the 245th pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Nolan Rucci · OT · rank 253
They took Nolan Rucci at par in Round 7, Pick 30, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Aidan Hubbard · DE-EDGE · rank 358
They reached into another round for Aidan Hubbard, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.35 · Pick 251 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 224
Zavion Thomas in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.36 · Pick 252 · Dane Key · WR · rank 234
Dane Key at the 252nd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · Josh Moten · CB · rank 266
Josh Moten at pick 256 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 256
By-the-book stuff, Jack Kelly at Round 7, Pick 41 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
