It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jason Henderson in pick No. 243, a good 141 spots before the room expected him. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Rivers falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The Golday pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety still on the board. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Dani Dennis-Sutton at the 64th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They bypassed pressing needs at safety to take Jake Golday, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
They took Ted Hurst at par in Round 3, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Billy Schrauth in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Emmett Johnson at No. 100 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Chandler Rivers at pick 126 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Jack Endries went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach on Cade Klubnik in pick No. 129; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with Mikail Kamara while clear needs at safety sat open.
They paid sticker price for Eric McAlister in No. 198, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Aiden Fisher well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Lander Barton this early at pick 220. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Logan Taylor at the 232nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jack Pyburn in slot 233 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kalil Alexander in pick No. 237, miles early. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A wild overpay on Deven Eastern in pick 239, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Joe Fagnano in the 240th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Eli Heidenreich in the 241st pick, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value said wait; Jason Henderson in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaren Kanak in Round 7, Pick 41 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
