Jacksonville Jaguars

A masterclass at the trade table lands the Jaguars a B.

Future B-

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Jaguars reached some 141 spots for Jason Henderson, and value like that does not grow back. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Golday.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.32 · Pick 64 · Caleb Tiernan · OT · rank 54
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Caleb Tiernan at the Round 2 slot is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
Ted Hurst in pick 81 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.24 · Pick 88 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 59
Jake Golday in the 88th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.36 · Pick 100 · Keylan Rutledge · OG · rank 114
They jumped the gun on Keylan Rutledge, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 96
Circle this one: Treydan Stukes at No. 124 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Jack Endries · TE · rank 121
They did well to land Jack Endries in slot 127, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 158
Beau Stephens at the 129th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.24 · Pick 164 · Demond Claiborne · RB · rank 161
Demond Claiborne at Round 5, Pick 24 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.10 · Pick 191 · Diego Pavia · QB · rank 238
Diego Pavia in pick 191 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.21 · Pick 202 · Eric McAlister · WR · rank 195
Eric McAlister in the 202nd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.22 · Pick 203 · Dalton Johnson · S · rank 203
Dalton Johnson at slot 203 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 239
By-the-book stuff, Eli Heidenreich at pick No. 239 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.24 · Pick 240 · Jason Henderson · LB · rank 381
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jason Henderson. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Joe Fagnano · QB · rank 304
They reached into another round for Joe Fagnano, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Nolan Rucci · OT · rank 253
Nolan Rucci in pick 246 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 256
No drama and no debate, Jack Kelly went about where he belonged in the 257th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
