It is the swing that defines the weekend: Junior Colson in the 83rd overall pick, a good 32 spots before the room expected him. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Clark steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Packers indulged a want in Smith while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They did well to land Troy Fautanu in pick 41, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Johnny Wilson in the Round 2 slot says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Junior Colson at Round 3, Pick 19, well ahead of any board in the building. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A curious use of the 92nd pick. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
No edge and no loss on Kris Abrams-Draine in pick No. 119; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
James Williams at slot 135 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Curtis Jacobs in the 197th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah Davis at pick No. 217 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
De'Corian Clark in Round 6, Pick 44 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Carson Steele at pick 240 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
