The war room fell hard for Carson Steele, and it showed at pick No. 246: 38 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Henderson. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Calen Bullock in No. 41 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Value with a capital V on T.J. Tampa in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Johnny Wilson was the payoff at slot 88. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Braelon Allen well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A conviction pick on Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 125 that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Javon Foster in slot 135, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: LaDarius Henderson at the 203rd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Christian Jones at No. 217 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Austin Stogner in pick No. 219, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Carson Steele in pick 246 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
