The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Eric Gentry, taking him 22 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 28
In the 25th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 37
Kamren Kinchens at pick 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 38
Taking Chop Robinson in Round 2, Pick 25 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 86
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Marist Liufau. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 119
Darius Robinson at pick No. 98 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 121
They did well to land Jarrian Jones in No. 125, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 129
Fair-plus on Will Shipley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 204
Myles Jones at the 203rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.40 · Pick 215 · Phil Jurkovec · QB · rank 227
Phil Jurkovec in No. 215 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 239
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eric Gentry well ahead of where he belonged. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 218
No drama and no debate, Blake Watson went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 44. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Mark Perry · S · rank 235
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 246, where Mark Perry graded well above the range. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
