The rest of the league had time to spare on Christian Jones; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 45 spots ahead at the Round 3 slot.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Getting Milton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Junior Colson at pick No. 56 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Christian Jones in pick 87, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tanor Bortolini at Round 5, Pick 38 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Kendall Milton higher than the 216th pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevin Wallace. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Evan Anderson well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
