Whoever sat across the table from the Steelers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots went begging. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The cost of the Daniels reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Pregnon pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Emmanuel Pregnon come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Fair-plus on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 76. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Domonique Orange is a better player than No. 85 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Treydan Stukes at the 99th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It fills a real need, too.
They reached into another round for CJ Daniels, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots to take Isaiah World, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Beau Stephens in slot 161 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
