Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys lost the trade table, and the D tells the story.

Nobody had Jordan Travis this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 41 spots to get him at Round 3, Pick 32. It grades a D, and the process earned it.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Abrams-Draine at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 25
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 60
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at the 56th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 70
Payton Wilson at No. 63 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
Cooper Beebe in pick 75 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 90
A straight-up fair deal on Sedrick Van Pran at the 87th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 96
Tyler Davis at pick No. 94 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 136
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Travis in the 95th overall pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 116
They talked themselves into Ainias Smith at slot 98, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 143
Ben Sinnott at No. 110 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.22 · Pick 122 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 130
MarShawn Lloyd at pick 122 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 127
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 120
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 131st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 128
Nothing to complain about; Javon Foster went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 123
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jarrian Jones at the Round 4 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 166
A slide stopped in the 174th overall pick, with Kitan Oladapo worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 187
They paid up for Josh Proctor at slot 177 when waiting would have done the job. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 217
Jase McClellan in No. 212 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 257
They paid a round early for Dwight McGlothern in pick No. 245, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
