When the story of this class is written, it opens with Akheem Mesidor at Round 7, Pick 41, a reach of 69 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Getting Mukuba where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Spending an early pick on safety with offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Isaiah Bond at par in Round 1, Pick 32, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at pick 64. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Xavier Watts here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
They bypassed pressing needs at offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots to take Andrew Mukuba, a safety that was not the priority.
They paid sticker price for Rylie Mills in the 133rd overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Akheem Mesidor at the 255th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
