There is reaching, and then there is Walter Rouse at pick 210. The Chiefs jumped the board by 60 and dared it to prove them wrong. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the 32nd overall pick with a little surplus value in Troy Franklin. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at pick 64 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Dominick Puni at No. 95 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kamal Hadden in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Theo Johnson in the 158th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Kitan Oladapo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A wild overpay on Walter Rouse in pick 210, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaac Guerendo. It fills a real need, too.
