The Chiefs bet big and early on Dwight McGlothern, 70 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Washington falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They robbed the room for Troy Franklin here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A safety of that caliber at the 95th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They did well to land Justin Eboigbe in slot 133, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Jaylen Wright in the 158th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Malik Washington in No. 172 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 35 says they were not listening. A minor itch, scratched.
Walter Rouse in pick 250 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
