The Chiefs went off the board in a big way for Walter Rouse, 60 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Braswell pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They did well to land Edgerrin Cooper in the 64th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let an edge rusher like Chris Braswell reach No. 95 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Kamal Hadden in pick No. 133, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Khristian Boyd went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the 172nd pick, where Jaylen Wright graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Walter Rouse at the 210th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaac Guerendo in No. 250 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
