Nobody else had Khristian Boyd anywhere near No. 158. The Chiefs did, by 21 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They banked enough surplus on Latham to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Adisa Isaac slipping to No. 64 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brenden Rice at pick No. 95 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Ben Sinnott in Round 4, Pick 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Khristian Boyd at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Walter Rouse went about where he belonged in slot 172. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
