The Chiefs bet big and early on Jalen Sundell, 57 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Paul at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Brian Thomas Jr. at Round 1, Pick 32 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They read the board right and Patrick Paul was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Darius Robinson this early at slot 95. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Kamal Hadden at the 133rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Theo Johnson at the 158th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Jaylen Wright in pick No. 172, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Jalen Sundell at pick 210, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Walter Rouse in the 250th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
