The Bears did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Connor Lew fell into the 89th overall pick. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging.
They are betting Washington Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter.
A.J. Haulcy at No. 60 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in slot 62 leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Connor Lew in the 89th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach on Mike Washington Jr. in pick 108; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on J.C. Davis at the 129th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: TJ Hall at pick No. 239 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fa'alili Fa'amoe at Round 7, Pick 25 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
