After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. With safety, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.

The McCaffrey pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The cost of the Tupuola-Fetui reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
