After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Reaching for Crum left real value on the table behind him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Vaki.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drake Maye. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.

They paid up for Jalen Sundell at the 231st pick when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Frank Crum at the 242nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
