Washington Commanders

The Commanders worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

Nobody had Jordan Jefferson this high, and it is not close. The Commanders reached 40 spots to get him at pick 141. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Burton steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Jared Verse · DE-EDGE · rank 16
In pick 17 they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.18 · Pick 18 · JC Latham · OT · rank 18
In pick No. 18 they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 58
They left a pile of value on the table to take Edgerrin Cooper this early at the 36th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
Fair-plus on Chop Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Jermaine Burton · WR · rank 49
Jermaine Burton in the 67th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 90
A reach on Sedrick Van Pran in No. 78; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 119
Malik Washington in pick No. 102 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 181
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Jefferson in No. 141, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 187
By-the-book stuff, Josh Proctor at slot 181 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 234
They liked Trevor Keegan enough to skip the value, taking him in the 223rd pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
