Chicago Bears

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Spears-Jennings: A.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bears watched Robert Spears-Jennings slide 51 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Bottom line, with Kenneth Grant leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.7 · Pick 39 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 19
They will replay Kenneth Grant at the 39th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 26
The board had Malaki Starks higher than Round 2, Pick 9, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Dylan Sampson · RB · rank 65
Dylan Sampson in pick 83 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.21 · Pick 122 · Jake Majors · C · rank 107
Value with a capital V on Jake Majors in pick No. 122, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.10 · Pick 149 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 109
Jared Wilson at the 149th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.24 · Pick 163 · Anthony Belton · OT · rank 120
Circle this one: Anthony Belton at No. 163 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.19 · Pick 197 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 146
Taking Robert Spears-Jennings in slot 197 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.17 · Pick 235 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 198
Steal is underselling it; Luke Lachey at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R7.24 · Pick 242 · Hayden Conner · OG · rank 213
Hayden Conner in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Ja'Corey Brooks · WR · rank 225
They barely believed it either: Ja'Corey Brooks still on the board at the 257th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
